Parts of Canada are set to see "vibrant sunsets" that look more red than usual because smoke from wildfires in Alberta and B.C. is blowing east.

The Weather Network has forecast that the impacts of a heavy smoke plume from those fires will be felt "thousands of kilometres away" on the other side of the country this week.

The air quality in Vancouver ranked as the worst in the entire world over the weekend, and TikToks of the city showed how bad the smoky air was.

The Weather Network said that at around 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the city had an air quality index (AQI) of 199 on IQAir, which was higher than any other major city in the world at the time. This meant that the quality was categorized as "unhealthy."

After a long stint of hot weather and heat warnings, Alberta now has to contend with "poor air quality" as smoke from wildfires in western Canada makes its way across the province.

According to Environment Canada, several areas in Alberta around Edmonton, Bonnyville, Fort Chipewyan, Fort McMurray, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Lloydminster and Westlock have received warnings about "reduced visibility and poor air quality".

There is an active wildfire near Lytton, B.C. that broke out on July 14 and has now led to multiple evacuation orders being issued. BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has classified the incident as "Out of Control," and said there is "heavy smoke."

The BCWS website said this classification means that a wildfire "is continuing to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts."
