'Never Have I Ever' Star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Teases Where Devi Could Be In 15 Years (VIDEO)

There may have been an alternative ending! πŸ‘€

Never Have I Everhas wrapped its fourth and final season, but that doesn't mean the story's over.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan teased in an interview with Narcity what Devi Vishwakumar's life could look like in 15 years, and according to leaked internet theories, there may have actually been an alternative time jump ending to season four.

*Season four spoilers ahead*

If you haven't finished season four, here is your chance to click out and come back after.

Season four starts off with Devi and Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) losing their virginity to each other, and after some painfully awkward communication, they end up not talking over summer break.

When their senior year starts, Ben is already dating Margot Ramos (Victoria Moroles), which leads to Devi having a classic (albeit warranted) public fight with Ben, where she calls his new girlfriend the "next warm body."

Margot, of course, hears her – ouch – which starts an unfortunate feud between their characters and drives a wedge between Devi and Ben's friendship throughout season four.

But Devi has a new sexy love interest with bad boy Ethan Morales (Michael Cimino), who's showing her the ropes to a healthy teen sex life.

Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) is also back as an assistant swim coach after dropping out of Arizona State University (ASU), and he and Devi are pretty much just friends throughout season four as he struggles to relive his glory days with one minor kiss in a closet. (Haven't we all backslid to an ex?)

All of this boy drama is going on while Devi and the rest of her friends are applying to universities, with Ben set on Columbia and Devi set on Princeton.

Devi gets put on the waitlist for Princeton (Fabiola gets accepted?) and rejected from all the other Ivy League colleges.

But Ben convinces Devi to write one more essay for her application to push the needle forward, and she gets in.

Ben and Devi eventually find their way back to each other at the end of season four after breaking up with their partners and mutually pining for each other over the summer.

Ben flies back from his internship in New York and shows up at Nirmala's (Ranjita Chakravarty) wedding (Devi's grandmother also finds love this season), and the pair hook up in a big movie moment.

The series ends with the couple cuddling up in Devi's Princeton dorm room, Fabiola Torres (Lee Rodriguez) studying at Howard University, Eleanor Wong (Ramona Young) making her own movie magic with Trent Harrison (Benjamin Norris), and Paxton back at ASU to become a teacher.

But what's in store for Devi down the road?

Where will Devi be in 15 years?

Ramakrishnan told Narcity that she just hopes Devi is financially and mentally stable in 15 years.

"It really could be anything knowing Devi, she's just so chaotic. She is equally likely to be settled down in a corporate job where she's hustling and just trying to make change, or she could be travelling the world because she thought it would be a cool idea to see a bunch of different countries, or she could be on a reality TV show."

Ramakrishnan said she could definitely see Devi on Netflix's Too Hot To Handle, and when it comes to romance, both Lewison and Barnet had thoughts on who Devi might end up with in the future.

In an interview with Narcity, Lewison said he could see Devi and Ben breaking up in university and finding their way back to each other in the future.

"Statistically, the odds are against them, but that doesn't mean it's impossible," he said. "They might go their separate ways and maybe find each other again."

Barnet also thought that Devi and Paxton might have a shot down the line.

"I don't know if the book's closed," Barnet teased.

Did Never Have I Ever have an alternative ending?

Mindy Kaling's brainchild Never Have I Evermay have actually had an alternative ending.

According to fans, Sendhil Ramamurthy, who plays Devi's dad, may have accidentally let the alternative ending out of the bag in an Instagram post.

Fans on Twitter and TikTok have been posting photos of Devi and Ben, all grown up with greying hair, and the photos reportedly came from a since-deleted Instagram post by Ramamurthy.

A Twitter user said the photos were from Ramamurthy's Instagram and that he also shared a comment admitting he didn't realize the ending to the show had changed.

"Whoops! Wait, what? How Does the show end? I haven't watched it yet? If it doesn't flash forward, then there is an alternative ending I hope you guys get to see at some point cuz it's fun!" reads the screenshot.

Another fan posted a screenshot of an alleged comment where he supposedly spilled the beans on the alternative ending's plot.

The Instagram post with alleged photos and comments isn't on Ramamurthy's Instagram account, but a photo dump of BTS photos of Never Have I Ever season four does have some telling comments.

"Oh Sendhil, you sweet, sweet soulπŸ’“πŸ˜‚," commented Ramakrishnan.

Ramamurthy replied to the comment, writing, "@maitreyiramakrishnan πŸ€¦πŸΎβ™‚οΈπŸ€¦πŸΎβ™‚οΈπŸ€¦πŸΎβ™‚οΈ So… I'll watch it this wknd πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚."

Lewison also commented on the post, writing, "Sendhil πŸ€£πŸ’€πŸ’€β€οΈ," and Ramamurthy responded by saying, "πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦πŸΎβ™‚οΈ. Clearly haven't watched yet 🀣."

"I know you deleted the other post. I hope you didn't get in trouble, but I do think Mohan is one of the best characters!" commented a fan of the show.

Ramamurthy seemingly confirmed he had posted the alternative ending and wrote back, "A little trouble, but I guess I can't get fired since the show is over πŸ˜‚."

If that wasn't enough to convince you that Never Have I Ever may have an alternative ending floating around on the cutting room floor, Lewison also confirmed that they filmed another ending in an interview with Bustle.

"The ending that was originally in Episode 10 was not the ending that made the cut. I wish I could tell you, but I don't think I can. But that ending was different," said Lewison.

So whether or not the lawyer theory is true, it seems there is an alternative ending out there that may hold clues to Devi's future.

This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.
